SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN

The label of 'special needs' is used as a convenient way to include children with a wide arrange of diagnoses. Each of these children is indeed special, and consequently, they receive a lot of attention and care. Overlooked are the family members who provide this attention and care. Dealing with these children demands so much time and so much effort that it can leave them feeling totally drained.

If you are one of these family members, you are one who also needs attention and care. You need reassurance and encouragement in the care you are providing. Jim Kok and Care and Kindness Ministries recognizes that you may frequently feel weary — or perhaps you have gotten used to denying your own needs. We offer our loving support of what you are doing and suggest the resources below as thoughts that may help.

They are in the form of articles that Jim Kok has written, relevant postings from our 'Thoughts from Jim' column, recommended books written by Jim Kok, and helpful scripture verses.

Psalm 30:4-5

You who are faithful to the Lord, sing praises to him; give thanks to his holy name! …Weeping may stay all night, but by morning, joy!

Psalm 147:3-6

He heals the heartbroken and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and assigns each a name. Our Lord is great, with limitless strength; we’ll never comprehend what he knows and does. God puts the fallen on their feet again and pushes the wicked into the ditch.
